An eyewear label conceptualised by Indonesian designer, model, actress and environmental activist, Fahrani Empel (Fa’).

PAWAKA officially launched in 2015 - unveiling a limited acetate collection for FW15 exclusively with The Store x Soho House, Berlin and Henrik Vibskov Boutique, Copenhagen and New York.

A forward and innovative interpretation has drawn from the designer’s inspiration in evolution, Native American philosophy, modernity, nature; and her constant source in her Indonesian heritage – the Dayak tribes of Borneo.

PAWAKA is the Sanskrit word for Fire; and the code name of Fa’s grandfather in World War II. Paying homage to Fa’s native land, all styles are named in numerical order of the Bahasa Indonesia Language.

Over the past years, Fa’s vision in eyewear design has been eagerly received by international media, editorial campaigns, endorsed by major celebrities; and selected by Vogue (Italia) in their annual list of “200 Emerging Designers to Watch” globally in 2015.

The synergetic effect of combining Fa’s design aesthetic and acclaimed insight into pop culture, with the craftsmanship of the best JAPANESE artisans; is a true reaction of the past, present and future.
